This month I’m joining Brooke McGlothlin at Warrior Prayers for the 21 Days of Prayer for Sons Challenge. Each day, Monday through Friday, I’m praying for a different area of Evan and Isaac’s life 5 to 10 times a day. This is day 15!
What I’m learning:
1. My primary focus for raising my boys is off centered. Usually, I’m focused on what they are wearing, how they are behaving, how they are getting along with others, cleaning, feeding, sleeping, etc…, It is only before meals and bedtime that I focus my heart for them towards God. Praying focused on specific areas has helped me to see that praying for them is more important than clothing, relationships, or behavior. I know deep down that heart transformation is much more important than behavior modification, yet my behavior seems more focused on the later.
2. Praying consistantly for my boys throughout the day is a challenge. Brooke encouraged us to pray 10 times a day using the daily prayer guide in her ebook “Warrior Prayers: Praying the Word for Boys in the Areas They Need it Most” (which I highly recommend). I set my phone to alert me 10 times a day to pray. The first three hours I’m good, but the later in the day the shorter the prayer focus has gotten. I do good to get 5 good prayer sessions in where I read through the list of scripture prayers. If I did not have my alarm set, there is no way I would remember to pray.
3. The scripture prayers are strengthening my prayer life. As I pray for my boys, I pray some of the prayers for myself, Shane, and others that come to mind who are struggling in those areas. I’m learning new scripture truths and praying them for family and friends.
4. To appreciate my boys for who God has created them to be. They are fun, friendly, funny, rambunctious, strong spirited, etc…, As I pray for areas, like peace and gentleness, I’m beginning to see those traits beneath there outward “Monkey Boy” behavior. I see depth of appreciation and love for God beginning to develop as they explore God’s Word and world. I also see glimpses of gifts and talents beginning to take root.
A prayer from today guide…
May Evan and Isaac be completely humble and gentle; patient, bearing with others in love (Ephesians 4:2)
Blessed by praying for my boys,Mitzi
