Sunday, our church sponsored five different community ministry projects. I helped by providing childcare for the volunteers. There were 50 to 75 children in total. Our church's preschool minister (who is wonderful) provided entertaining activities for the children to rotate through. This included decorating cookies, hearing about the candy cane story, watching a short Christmas movie, free playing, decorating ornaments, and seeing a puppet show. It was more like an amazing Christmas Party. The kids laughed, played, and enjoyed all the activities. Evan, my two year old, particularly liked the puppet show.
I was inspired when one of the first grade girls began to tell me about how her parents were serving others. You would have loved hearing the pride in her voice. Even though she didn't get to directly participate in the ministry projects, because she really was too young for these particular projects, she knew that her parents were making a difference.
This was a reminder to me of the importance of churches providing childcare so families with children can participate in missions.
